The Condé hospice was established in Chantilly at the beginning of the 18th century at the wish of the princes. Charged with caring for the poor, the sick, the elderly, the destitute and abandoned children, the Hospice Condé was run by the Sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul. In the 1780s, the hospice acquired a collection of polychrome earthenware medicine jars to store the powders, ointments, pills and other substances used as medicines. Miraculously preserved in its entirety, this magnificent collection of 120 jars is housed in the hospice chapel: urn- or tureen-shaped jars with floral decorations, marked with the arms of the Princes of Bourbon-Condé, and with surprising (hemlock, whalebone, Mithridate, etc.) or sometimes repulsive (woodlouse eyes, dog's tongue or even viper's powder) indications! The Pharmacie Condé is open from time to time, depending on the schedule of guided tours of the town of Chantilly and during the Heritage Days.
