Until 31 août 2025
Lace Museum 60500 CHANTILLY
from 14h00 to 18h00
With the 'Parures' project, which began in 2017 during a year-long residency in Normandy, Christine Mathieu explored the textile collections - headdresses and lace ornaments - of institutions such as the Musée de Normandie in Caen and the Musée des Beaux-arts in Alençon. Fascinated by the quality of these subtle creations, all the work of anonymous women, she has used her visual creations to create an imaginary space where headdresses and pieces of lace pass silently by.
In 2025, the collections of the Chantilly Lace Museum become the source of inspiration. Shadows, spectres, elves, the bodies are absent or present. Bodies and faces are more suggested than shown, embodied in a deliberate silence. A fleeting grace, a fading memory, her creations are a tribute to ordinary fairies with vanished identities. This work on textile heritage reintroduces an experience intimately linked to the history of the status of women into the mainstream of contemporary creation.
