Equestrian show: "Kalendae" at the Château de Chantilly

To mark the major exhibition of 2025 at the Château de Chantilly - presenting for only the third time since the 19th century the manuscript Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, an absolute masterpiece of medieval illumination nicknamed "the Mona Lisa of manuscripts" - the Compagnie Equestre du Château de Chantilly is joining forces with this international event with an original and poetic show: Kalendae, la ronde des Heures.

Imagined as a living tribute to the fabulous work of the Limbourg brothers, the famous illuminators of the manuscript, this show draws its inspiration from the visual and symbolic richness of these exceptional miniatures: peasant and aristocratic scenes, fantastic creatures, the zodiac, the seasons and knowledge from another time intertwine to bring to life a reinvented Middle Ages.

Since autumn 2024, the Compagnie's equestrians have been patiently studying the smallest details of these paintings to recreate their spirit through an immersive and enchanting equestrian fresco. Under the great dome, redecorated for the occasion, they invite the public to join in the circle of hours, surrounded by artists from a variety of backgrounds: singer, dancer, acrobat, aerial acrobats... And of course, horses, ponies and donkeys, faithful companions of this living theatre.

Kalendae brings back to life a world where dragons, unicorns, gentlewomen, peasants, lumberjacks and reapers met, where writing, art, science and astronomy guided scholars. A suspended, magical and sensory experience for young and old alike.
