The city of Laversine castle is today known in our territory as the home of a Lycée professionnel Donation Robert & Nelly de Rothschild. A building whose the story goes back a long way

But when exploring its history, should we talk about "the castle" of Laversine, or "the castles" of Laversine?

In reality, there are 3 castles in Laversine, which have been built in succession over the course of time!

The first castle

The city of first known castle belonged to the members of theCistercian abbey of Royaumontcreated in 1228 by Saint-Louis.

A castle that was probably destroyed in 1360 during the Great Jacquerie.

However, there are still a number of small cellars dating from this period.

The second castle

A second castle was then built, sometimes called a "manor" in the texts, surrounded by houses and a chapel. It was first occupied by Lord Aubry de Laversine.

The estate remained in the family until 1480 when Vasco de Souza buys it. He was an important person, adviser and chamberlain to the king, captain of Creil, who made numerous acquisitions and built up a large estate in Saint-Maximin.

His grandson, Philippe de Suze, lieutenant general in the government of the Île-de-France, was a major figure in the entourage of the King of France, François IerHe received them at least twice in Laversine.

The castle later became the property of the prince de Condé who ordered its demolition in 1782.

But the history of this place continues, since on 25 January 1874, Baron Gustave de Rothschild buys the estate and added the Haute Pommeraye forest to it.

The construction of thecurrent castle was completed in barely ten years, from 1882 to 1892!
