As the town's mascot, we like to remember its various decorations over the years. Sometimes in bloom in summeror dressed in branches and a few garlands as soon as Christmas arrives. As it approaches, the Creil duck at Place Carnot brightens up the landscape.

The origin of the duck

It wasn't easy to find out, but thehe Creil Sud Oise Tourisme team went on the hunt for information from the heritage department of the town of Creil. who entrusted us with this:

"The duck's iron frame was made by SOFEMO, an ironwork company based in Montataire. in the 1980s. This is a request for Jean Anciant (former mayor of Creil) for the construction of a complex comprising a open book with crest (on the Match roundabout in rue de la République), another at the entrance to the Moulin district and the Creil duck ".

We would have liked to find out more about the symbolism of this duck, but it's probably safe to say that this the banks of the river Oise which flows through the town.. A river to which Creil owes its industrial development to even before the arrival of the railway, thanks in particular to the use of the water mills which enabled the first industries to set up in the region just after the French Revolution (as was the case with the earthenware industry, for example).

Decorated by the municipal greenhouses

In summer, nearly 7000 flowers which cover the duck's metal frame. We owe this work to green space gardeners from the town of CreilThousands of seedlings are grown in this way in the municipal greenhouseswhich we hope to be able to show you again soon via exceptional guided tours.
