Since 2015, the Retratistas do Morro project has been highlighting Brazil's visual heritage by showcasing photographic archives from marginalised communities.
It is based on the identification, preservation and dissemination of images that are rarely represented in the collective memory.
Two major figures take centre stage: João Mendes and Afonso Pimenta, photographers from Aglomerado da Serra, Brazil's second largest favela.
The project places particular emphasis on individual representation, enriched by oral testimonies from the photographers.
Free admission during Espace Matisse gallery opening hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 2pm to 5pm).
